#OVERHOLL Accent Island

For as long as I can remember I have always wanted a white kitchen. I love how crisp, clean and airy it is. So when I started to see coloured cabinetry pop up in my Pinterest feed I was so torn!  I loved the colours but I was still partial to that white kitchen I had always dreamed of. Carli, my designer, was a huge help in showing me how I could blend the two trends together with an accent island!

Our kitchen cabinetry is all from Ikea- which in the end I love. I am not going to lie, it was a bit of a nightmare getting there but we did.  Between Covid and my lack of understanding when it comes to carpentry it caused many fights for Lee and I. BUT like I said, I am happy we ended up going that route in the end.  This is not our forever home and so dumping a massive amount of money into our cabinets wasn’t a priority for us. This house will eventually become a rental so Ikea was the perfect option for us.  With that being said, we are going to spend some time here and I did want to love it, so when Carli suggested we check out Kitch cabinetry for our island I was pleasantly surprised.

If you haven’t heard of Kitch, they’re a Canadian company that manufactures cabinet doors to fit Ikea cabinets (and other custom) cabinets. It’s a great way to give your Ikea kitchen that custom cabinet look without the massive price tag. Lee and I took a rode trip to Edmonton last summer and we stopped in the beautiful Kitch showroom. If you have the the opportunity to do that as well, I would recommend it. Seeing everything in person made it so much easier to make our selections.  We decided to go with the 5 piece shaker style door in the colour Flint. I am SO happy with the colour choice. It adds that pop of colour we needed in the space – I can say with confidence that had we gone with an all white kitchen, island included, it would have been just too white.

So, what do you all think? Would you do an accent island?
