My Favourite Green Smoothie
This year one of my New Years resolutions was to get myself into a better morning routine. For as long as I can remember I’ve been hitting the snooze button too many times leaving me scrambling to get out the door on time. This meant 99% of the time I would leave the house without eating breakfast. I would get to school and do my every day check-in’s with the kids “did you have a good sleep?” “a good breakfast?” all while my own tummy was making some crazy noises. Between the grumbling and sloshing of coffee on an empty stomach I knew it was not good and something needed to change. I initially tried the overnight oat thing. It was OK but I didn’t have time to eat it before I left and by the time I got to school and sat at my desk, eating breakfast was at the bottom of my to-do list. I needed something for the drive to school…. a smoothie!
I experimented with a few recipes and this one is by far my favourite. It’s healthy, delicious, and keeps my full until lunch!
* peel, cut, and freeze your bananas before!
Best Green Smoothie Recipe
-1/2 frozen banana
-1 cup (or more) fresh baby spinach
-1 cup coconut milk
-1 scoop PB2
-1 scoop organic brown rice protein powder – this stuff is absolutely horrendous on its own but it is perfect in this smoothie. I tried it with vanilla and it was NOT GOOD.
-Handful of mixed nuts, dates, and shredded coconut. I throw a big batch of this in my food processor once a month and keep it in a jar on my counter. My favourite mixture is dates, almonds, dried coconut, and cashews.
-splash of egg whites – this makes it frothy and gives you a little more protein
-dash of cinnamon
*you can add ice if you wish but the frozen banana keeps it cold enough for my liking
I almost always prep my smoothie the night before by putting everything, except the coconut milk, into the blender cup and popping it into the freezer. That way all I need to do is add the liquid and blend.
And because drinking a smoothie out of a cute tumbler makes everything better, here are a few of my favourites:
Oh and I always get questions about my metal straws. Here they are! I just have the regular metal one but these metallic ones look pretty sweet!
Are you a big smoothie guy?! If so, share your favourite in the comment section below. It’s so nice to switch it up every so often!

I made this concoction myself… I drink it pretty much every day. It works out to about 260 calories.
-1 small banana
-1/2cup blue berries
-4 Pineapple chunks
-1 tbsp matcha
-handfull Spinach
-Silk unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk 1.5 cups
-1 tablspoon chai seeds
-1 scoop Vega Protien ( I like coconut almond or chocolate flavours)
-1 cup of ice cubes

That sounds delicious!! I love pineapple but never think to put it in my smoothie, I’ll have to give it a try!

Spinach, mango, peaches, strawberry and water – it’s pretty juicy but still super filling! We buy everything frozen except the spinach so it’s easy to always have on-hand. Blend it up the night before and just give it a quick shake before drinking it!
If I’m still a little hungry, my favourite new protein powder is the Juice Plus Complete Dutch Chocolate flavour. No need to mix it into a smoothie, it’s AMAZING on its own with water. Vegan, gluten-free, and NSF certified! I’ve used a LOT of different proteins in my life, and this is the only one I can drink everyday without eventually getting sick of!

I’ll have to try that protein powder for when I’m feeling like a sweet treat!
Steph
This sounds delicious:) Where do you get the organic brown rice protein powder that you use?
Holly
Hi Steph!
I got it from Old Fashion Foods!
Kimmy
Is it the Silk brand of coconut milk? Or the actual thick coconut milk from the imported section? Looking forward to trying out this recipe 🙂
Holly
Sorry for the delayed reply! The Silk brand!
