The age old question “what are you wearing?” is always one that seems to stress a lot of people out when it comes to fashion week.  Perhaps because it’s a fashion event, it makes people feel a bit more nervous.  Which in all reality, it should relieve a little bit of pressure. Fashion shows are a great time to try a new trend or wear something you might typically stray away from. I say anything goes as long as you keep these three things in mind:

1.) Does it fit properly and is it flattering on your body type?  Remembering to buy pieces that fit your body is super important. You want to make sure it is not pinching you in the wrong places, cutting you off, and that the cut and length are flattering.  Not sure, ask a friend who you can trust… that brutally honest friend is the one you’re going to want to ask!

2.) Will you wear the item again? This one is huge for me, especially if I’m going to be spending some of my hard earned money on the item.  Before purchasing, try to think of at least three other occasions you can wear the item for.  I typically stray away from dresses as I find they are much harder to rewear.  Skirts, a fun pant, or even rompers are a little more likely to get more wear in my wardrobe so I tend to stick to them.

3.) Do you feel confident? This is the most important rule.  If you feel confident in the outfit, that is ALL that matters! You smile and confidence will rub off on others around you… heck they may not even notice the outfit!

Keep these things in mind and you’ll be sure to wow yourself… that is after all who you should be dressing for!

Not attending the actual fashion show? Don’t worry, the after party and Designer Pop-Up shop will be open to the general public. I’ve bought some of my favourite things from the pop-up shop.  I’ve even changed outfits mid fashion show because I’ve fallen in love with something at the shop and couldn’t wait to wear it, haha yup that’s me!
Not really into fashion or shopping but somehow you’ve ended up at Sask Fashion week? You also, don’t have to worry! The after party is always a good time.  The drinks are great, the music game is strong, and the dance floor is always bumping!

What I Wore:

I grabbed this Alice + Olivia romper a few weeks ago from a local boutique here in Regina, Marbella!  I know what you’re thinking… Alice + Olivia is crazy expensive, and it was.  But here is how I justified the insane price tag.

1.) Look at it!!! I mean it is just adorable.  The pattern, the fit, and the cold shoulder… need I say more?! 2.) Versatility!!! This romper is fit for a million and one occasions… a fashion show, a dinner date with girlfriends, vacation wear, a wedding shower, and so on.  I would much rather spend a little more on something I will wear several times than spending little less on something I might only get to wear once. If you agree great, if not… to each their own!
3.) I had a gift card.  I don’t know about you but when I have a gift card I love putting it towards something I wouldn’t normally buy and treating myself… yes, this was a big treat!

Anyways, I decided to pair the romper with these fun shoes I grabbed from Aldo! I loved the yellow… it just screams spring!

There are few things I enjoy more than spending time with my girlfriends, and when your bestie happens to be your sister, it doesn’t get much better.  A GNO can cure a awful day at work, a boyfriend/ husband who thinks there is a monster in the dishwasher, a bad hair day, or even the most horrendous breakup.  If  the above doesn’t apply to you, a night out can also serve as a reminder of how awesome your girlfriends are. 

One of my favourite GNO’s is Saskatchewan Fashion Week.  The combination of spring weather, fashion, and of course, the night out with my girlfriends, makes for a pretty epic weekend.  I started the tradition of giving my sister SFW tickets for her birthday a few years ago and now it’s something we look forward to every year.  My sister and I live in different cities so when she comes to town there is no shortage of giggles, vino, food, and shopping! It’s the perfect event to mark in your calendar each and every year because it never fails to disappoint.  Walking in, you instantly feel the creative energy and excitement.  It’s more than a fashion show showcasing local retailers and designers.  It’s an event where you can shop, dance, watch the show, and connect with creative people. 

Tickets for Saskatchewan Fashion week are currently on sale!  So start rounding the troops, thinking about what to wear, and dreaming of spring weather… it’s coming faster than you think!
