We all know there are millions of things that factor into having healthy skin: sun, your diet, staying hydrated, etc.  Skincare is definitely an important one (I will be talking about that soon, so stay tuned) but so is makeup.  Using all the best skincare products can really be a waste if you’re putting unhealthy makeup on your skin, and boy was I guilty of this!  Before meeting Jenn at Nu Image, I would put anything on my skin without thinking twice.  In my defence, I had never tried a mineral makeup that compared to my “not so good for your skin” makeup. Before I get too deep into this post I’m going to throw this out there.  Will I completely switch to all mineral makeup, all of the time, no I most likely won’t  But, has trying these products opened my eyes to trying healthy and new products, absolutely… especially ones that you put directly on your face.

Enter Glo Minerals! I had seen these products on my girl Jillian Harris’ snapchat before I had the pleasure of trying them and now I know what she was raving about!!  A couple weeks ago the beautiful and talented Jenn did my makeup with all Glo Mineral products and my view on mineral makeup has completely changed!  Glo Minerals has killed it with these formulas.  I now own some of the products so I thought I would give y’all  a little review on what I am currently using in my everyday routine.

LUXE Liquid Foundation: This is by far my favourite Glo Mineral product that I own.  From the packaging (glass bottles get me everytime) to the application and staying power this foundation gets 5 stars all around.  It applies beautifully, offers buildable coverage, is lightweight, has a dewy finish (you know I’m all about that glow life), lasts all day, and doesn’t settle into my fine lines.  Winner, winner, chicken dinner.  *I have read some reviews that suggest the color matching process can be difficult with this foundation, so make sure you ask for help! If you go to Nu Image to purchase this they will gladly help you find the perfect shade for you!

Contour Kit: I was honestly hesitant to switch to this one as you may know I love my Anastasia Beverly Hills contour palette.  But, I decided to give this a go and am I ever glad I did.  I can without a doubt say I like it even more.  Here’s why, the banana powder is a lot more pigmented than the Anastasia one! It actually highlights my undereye area a lot better and also sets my concealer perfectly.  The colors apply beautifully and are not chalky or patchy at all.  I find myself reaching for this on the daily, well done Glo, well done!

Creme Glaze Crayon (Heirloom): Creamy, comfortable, and just the prettiest every day color!  I LOVE this pencil lipstick, it reminds me a lot of the NARS lip pencils if you’ve tried those except… they’re NOT bad for you! YAY!! Also, this little guy comes with a sharpener on the end, genius!!!!

Cherry Lip Balm: You guys… winter is coming.  I’m so sorry to say it but as I’m writing this I’m bundled up in my sweats, a bunnyhug (it’s a Canadian term, google it if you don’t know what it is, haha) and my slippers, it’s chilly out there today, my friends! With old man winter around the corner you KNOW you’ll be reaching for that chapstick nonstop.  I love this one!!! First, the size of it is hilarious and awesome all at once.  It is legit the size of a glue stick, like the big one, haha! I throw it on before using my Creme Glaze Crayon and my lips feel like heaven! It protects lips with full spectrum SPF 15,  while nurturing botanicals of hemp seed oil, meadowfoam and mango seed butter soothe and heal… I mean, common!

I’m SO excited for summer vacation, but I am not so excited about not earning a pay check for the next three months.  In my division, we are payed over 10 months and there is no option to have it spread over 12 months.  Even though I save accordingly, I like to tighten up my spending in the summer months… The bad news: my trips to Sephora are few and far between.   The good news: I have done the grunt work and found drugstore beauty products that I love just as much, if not more!

Weather you’re on a budget or not these products are worth the try!

L’oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation– This is is hands down my favourite foundation right now.  I currently have NARS, Cover FX, and Make-Up Forever bottles in my drawer and I continually find myself reaching for this one.  I love the application process. Dabbing my foundation brush into the cushion allows for absolutely no waste.  It has buildable coverage, it feels light, and is applies beautifully leaving your skin looking naturally dewy and fresh! I cannot say enough good things about this foundation! I will be using this even after returning to teaching and my regular spending habits.

L’oreal Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer– I must admit I am on again, off again when it comes to primers.  I’m really not sure if they actually help my makeup stay on all day like they claim so I won’t go out and say this one does that. It does however, give your skin that “glowing from within” look that I love.  I love using it as a primer, mixing it with my foundation or simply applying it with my daytime moisturizer when I’m not wearing foundation for a natural radiant look, perfect for summer! It also works as a highlighter…another banger by L’oreal, nice work guys!

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer– great coverage, doesn’t crease, and stays put all day.  What more do you need? This is very comparable to Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer but is a tenth of the price!

Cover Girl Lashblast Volume– This mascara came highly recommended by my beautiful friend and fellow blogger, Chia Habte from Just Peachy!  I’m not going to lie I didn’t love this mascara at first but the more I used it I realized how awesome it really is.  It needs work though, as most do.  It’s super buildable, it does not clump or flake off which is rare.  So don’t judge it after one coat like I did! Thanks, Chia… check out her blog here!  I also really love the Maybelline Lash Sensational, I like to flip flop between the two!

NYX Makeup Setting Spray Dewey Finish– If you haven’t already realized I am fully on board with the dewey skin trend, if you are too this product is for you!  I was a big MAC fix plus girl forever, and I still do enjoy it (the smell is amazing)  but I have been favouring this setting spray lately.  I find it helps my makeup last all day and it really does give you a dewey finish… in fact, it is quite intense so don’t get carried away.  One spray is all you need.  I have gotten carried away and it looked like I took a can of Pam to my face, so be mindful of that!

NYX High Voltage Lipstick – The formula of these lipsticks are not typical of drugstore lipsticks.  I am quite particular when it comes to lip products and I have nothing but great things to say.  The color payoff is amazing, one swipe is all you need. It doesn’t dry my lips out, and the color selection is amazing… the only downfall is it doesn’t last as long as I would like but for under $5.00 you can’t complain!

Annabelle Big Show Lip Shine–  This product has a tonne of negative reviews floating around saying it tastes and smells awful.  I personally can’t complain about either as I didn’t notice the smell at all and I try not to eat my lipgloss so no complaints on that front.  I love the formula!! It’s not sticky, has great color payoff and the I found the color I have actually stains my lips so even once the glossy shine wears off there is still a bit of color! I love this lipgloss for teaching as it is easy to apply and like I said once the gloss wears off I still have a nice natural looking pink tinge to my lips!

The cosmetic industry – or Sephora, can be very overwhelming.  There are always new products and gimmicks to try and if you don’t have the time or desire to do your research you can end up spending a lot of money on unnecessary products. SO I thought I would share my favorite beauty products that I reach for daily.  Some are new, but most of these are my old tried, tested and true favorites!

Loreal Paris Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner

I bought this eyeliner last month and there hasn’t been a day that I haven’t used it.  Okay wait, that’s a lie.  When I’m doing a more dramatic eyeliner, like a cat eye, I love me some gel liner… but for an every day easy liner, this is it! I especially love this for in my water line- the fat tip makes it super easy to apply!

Champagne Pop Palette

I am OBSESSED with the highlighter that Becca cosmetics and Jaclyn Hill came out with. It is honestly so friggin’ beautiful.  Now saying that- it is limited edition and is now sold out  However- for the holidays Becca cosmetics came out with this limited edition holiday palette which includes Champagne pop ANDDD two new colors: “Pearl” and “Blushed Copper.”  I ordered this palette the day it came out and it arrived on my doorstep three days later… and oh myyyy it is gorgeous!! The three shades range from a super light pearl to soft peach (champagne pop) to a deep copper.  You can highlight, add color and even a bronzing effect.  I believe this baby is still available on Sepora.com but I suggest you snag it asap!

NYX Butter Gloss (Shade Creme Brulee)

This is a pretty bold statement but I’m gonna go ahead and stick with it.  In my opinion, this is the best and cheapest glosses on the market.  Typically I’m more of a lipstick girl but there are those days I crave a good creamy, smooth, rich, lip gloss… this my friend does just the trick and it’s under $10.00! It’s name, “butter gloss” couldn’t describe the product any better. It is just that- buttery, smooth, and just tacky enough to hold the color in place and make it last.  My personal favorite is the shade Creme Brulee, it is just that perfect pinky nude…ugh, so good!

Make Up Forever HD Foundation & Loreal Tru Match Lumi Foundation

This foundation has been popular forever and for good reason.  It is silky and light but still has great coverage. This foundation is also great for photos as it doesn’t have SPF in it.  Foundations that have even the lowest amount of SPF will give you a white face in pictures.  The only thing that I find tricky about this foundation is the colors- they don’t have names just letters and numbers which can be confusing so if you do decide to purchase this make sure you ask for help and get your color matched.  It is on the expensive side but I think it is well worth the money.  If you don’t have $45.00 to spend on a bottle of foundation the next best thing would be the L’OREAL True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Foundation The L’oreal foundation is light weight but has great coverage, gives that dewy glow, and lasts all day.  Having sensitive skin I was hesitant to try it but I have had zero issues.  The bottle is $12.00 and is honestly one of the best foundations I have tried.  I typically use this one on a daily basis unless I have some blemishes and want a little more of a full coverage, then I reach for my Make Up Forever HD foundation.

MAC All That Glitters Eye Shadow

Don’t let the name fool you, this shadow does not have chunks of glitter in it.  I would describe it more as a shimmer.  If I was going to name it I would call it All That Shimmers!  I had heard lots of great things about it but always forgot to grab one when I was in front of the massive choice selection at the M.A.C counter, am I ever happy I finally did!  I love using this shadow as a everyday lid color.  It also doubles as a great highlighter- try it on your cheekbones, or the inner corners of your eyes to brighten any look.  If you’re looking to change up your every day shadow this is a fun one to try!

Sigma Beauty Brow Powder Duo

I recently just hit pan in my brow powder duo and I already have another on the way as I don’t want to be without it.  This is by far my favorite product to fill in my brows.  I love that it has the two colors, it stays put all day, has a great price point,(under $20!)is extremely pigmented, and with the perfect brush it is honestly so easy to apply.  Not a whole lot to say about this product I just know it is a must have for me. Makeup Eraser

This cloth is seriously my favorite thing ever!  It takes off every stitch of makeup with just water.  The cloth comes completely clean after coming out of the washing machine- it is crazy!!  I HATE using makeup remover and to be frank I would never use it, I am way too lazy to add an extra step to my bedtime routine.  I would simply use 3 pumps of my very expensive face wash to get all of my makeup off. What a waste!! My face wash now lasts three times as long as it did before… get one, it will change your life!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit

This kit is WELL worth the money.  Perfect for those who are new to the contour game but also great for experts.  The colors are great for all skin tones, they blend beautifully, and if are applied properly stay put all day.  The colors pop out and can be replaced individually which is a HUGE bonus- nothing worse than running out of your favorite color and then having to buy the entire palette again just for that color… so silly! This kit has changed my contour game for the better and is now a staple piece in my collection.
