Holy guacamole!! One year ago today I was completely terrified pressing publish on my first ever blog post, I actually can’t believe it has been 365 days…. crazy! First, I can’t believe how fast it went, at this rate I’ll blink and be 65, ahhh! Second, the amount of support and opportunities I have been given in such a short time has been humbling and I will be forever grateful for those who took a chance on a newbie!

I often get asked what made me start TMS, so I thought today would be an appropriate time to share…

I’m the type of person who is always looking for a challenge or the next adventure. Those who know me personally, know that I am a mover and shaker and I crave being busy. Blogging had always been something I dreamt of doing but never had the confidence to do. Last April, Brandon (my boyfriend) and I went to Hawaii (read all about it here!) and we saw Julia Engel from Gal Meets Glam in a tiny taco shop. I was completely star struck. Julia was sitting there with her boyfriend/photographer casually enjoying some food. It was at that moment that Brandon and I realized they were just two regular people who decided to go after their dreams and that we could do the same. Brandon’s background in web development and photography made it easy for us to get started. As soon as I came up with the name, Teach Me Style (right in the middle of reading a story to my class, haha!) he registered the domain and the rest is history.

Anyways, enough about me… today I am celebrating YOU!! I honestly cannot say thank you enough for the support! I have had countless emails, comments, and texts from people near and far sharing words of encouragement, which almost always seem to show up when I need it most. Starting a blog and putting yourself out there can be scary, but you have made it the complete opposite! I feel loved, supported, and empowered with every post.

The Blanket Scarf

The blanket scarf… ah, such a typical fall must-have but for good reason. I have heard people poke fun of the trend calling those wrapped up in their leather coats and blanket scarves “Aritzia Blanket Scarf Zombies”. I have to chuckle… I am a self proclaimed Aritzia Blanket Scarf Zombie. I love them and I’m not afraid to admit it. I love how cozy they are, how you can wear them as a giant scarf or as a poncho/cape, I love that they keep my face warm during recess supervision, and I love that they add that little bit of dimension to any outfit. I typically wear mine folded in half to make a triangle and then wrapped around my neck however, lately I have been wearing it as a poncho and I am loving it.

This particular scarf is about 6 years old. In fact this entire outfit is old and I still love it! Finding new ways to wear old clothes is one of my favorite things. I suggest you pull up your favorite blog(s) (mine include, Jillian Harris, Sincerely Jules, Shalice Noel, and Gal Meets Glam) for a little inspiration, pour yourself a glass of wine, and make a big ol’ mess in your closet. At least one of the following will happen: you will come up with a sweet new outfit, you will find something you thought you had lost forever, or you will realize what kinds of pieces you are missing from your wardrobe and what you need to add the next time you have a little extra cash floating around!

Overall Love

I have been on the hunt for the perfect pair of overalls, preferably denim. I have yet to come across them but during my hunt I did happen to find these uber adorable trouser overalls! Who knew such a thing even existed?! I stumbled across them at forever 21 on our road trip last month. I didn’t think much of them when I looked at them on the hanger but thought I would try them on anyways. Boy was I shocked when I put them on…so cute, fit like a glove and under $35.00! Don’t you just love when that happens?!

Another reason these are great? The straps are removable! I took off the straps, swapped the crop top for this cute little lace top I scored from Winners, and I was set for my first day of school outfit!

Have surprised yourself in the change room recently?! Isn’t it just the best!?
