My collection has definitely grown over the last few years and this season is no exception.  I recently received this jacket from FIG Clothing, a Canadian company, and it has quickly become my favourite!  There’s a few things that make it stand out.  First, it has a inner down insulated lining making it SO warm and it also gives the illusion of layering which I always love.  The jacket itself isn’t super thick,  yet it definitely has proven to be warm.  The vertical zippers for the pockets and the slim fit make it extremely flattering-no more looking like a Michelin man this winter! And last, the fabric of this jacket is unlike any other that I own, it’s just a tad dressier than most parkas which is nice for a change.  We’ve all been there… you’re all dressed up for a night out on the town with your gals and it -40 so you’re stuck wearing your big bulky parka looking like an abominable snowman!  Well, that’s definitely not a problem anymore, the wool blend finish of this coat makes it just a little dressier so you can be warm AND look cute!

– a polyurethane (PU) membrane that keeps you dry
– 10K waterproofing and 10K breathability
– and is RDS certified responsible down

This young company was only founded in 2005 but has quickly become very popular and for good reason. The coats are innovative with highly technological components, and above all, are designed to be functional- because winter, am I right?!   The gorgeous fur on the outside AND the inside of this hood make it look and feel totally luxurious. The fur is removable but let’s be honest it’s not coming off. Oh, and yes, they do have a fur policy.  If you would like to read more about their ethically sourced furs click here!

I’m not going to lie, typically I dread outdoor supervision in the winter. Yes, I do believe it is an important and necessary part of being a teacher but I would be lying if I said I loved it in the winter.   It’s not the whole supervising part I don’t enjoy, it’s the standing outside for 20 minutes in the dead of winter part I hate.  But, not this year, I’m actually excited about outdoor supervision!

The nylon exterior is not only thick so it will cut the wind that always seems to howl like a wolf to the moon, but it is coated so it is water (and dirt) resistant.  The jacket is down filled so you know it’s going to keep you toasty warm even on the coldest of days yet slim fitting so you’re not stuck looking like the Michelin man… don’t laugh, we’ve all been there.

Typically I’m drawn to a longer coat, I like something that covers my bootie and keeps it toasty warm, but I often find parkas can be too long making me look even shorter than I am.  This “long bear” coat is literally the perfect length for my 5’4″ stature.  It covers my butt but also stops just above the knee to give me the illusion of being taller than I really am, which is really nice because trust me, as bad as I want to wear heels in -40 with this coat it just doesn’t fly… sorels it is!

Last, and probably my most favourite part of this jacket is the length of the sleeves.  I have long arms and a small body and typically jackets like this fit me in the body but then are much too short in the sleeves, this long bear style is perfect! The European slim fit of this coat is flattering throughout the body but also fits in the arm length.
