Denim dresses have been ALL over this summer and I’m not mad about it, haha! I love denim in all seasons but in particular the summer. Denim dresses, denim shorts, denim skirts… I just can’t get enough. However, one downfall with denim can be the weight. If you’re tuning in from Saskatchewan, you know what I’m talking about, it has been insanely hot lately. Hot and dryyyyy… so, putting on a thick, heavy denim dress might not be top of mind. This mock denim fabric is a perfect substitution for those scorchers we’ve been lately. It’s lightweight, breathable and just darling thanks to that adorable one shoulder ruffle detail- totally perfect for any summer occasion!

Blue Heartloom Dress

This dress is not new to Teach Me Style, however, I had such positive feedback from the Instagram I posted of me wearing it in Mexico, I thought I would share it again!

I originally posted this dress as an OOTN inspo post for New Years eve and styled it with a duster jacket and some black suede booties to help combat the subzero temperatures… it was SO cold on New Years that I never did end up wearing this dress So I decided it would be perfect for the wedding in Mexico! For the wedding, I obviously left my shoulders bare as the temperature was slightly warmer (about 60 degrees to be exact, lol).

This cocktail dress is absolutely perfect for weddings! It’s light, under $100, the color is absolutely stunning, and it doesn’t need to be pressed or ironed (by far the best part!) I simply took it out of my suitcase and hung it in the closet and it was good to go- perfect for this destination wedding!!

I wanted to keep the jewlery quite simple as I love the simplicity of the dress and I wanted to keep with that theme. I decide to go with black and gold palette and I am quite happy with how it turned out. Because I was travelling, I took only my favourite pieces of jewlery (taking to much is an easy way to add unnecessary weight to your luggage). This Stella & Dot necklace, Prada sunnies, and my Brooklyn Designs cuff were the perfect finishing touch to this outfit!

Winter Date Night Outfit

You guys. It is freaking freezinggggggg. This morning when I opened my weather app it said feels like -47 celsius which is about -52 Fahrenheit which really just means another indoor recess for the kids… ugh. Okay, I’m done complaining for now but if mother nature doesn’t turn this around real quick, it’s not going to pretty in my house… these indoor recesses are making me go insane!

Speaking of going crazy, a good cure to kick the winter blues is a date night! I know, you’re probably thinking what in the same hell do I wear when it’s sub zero temps?! Think in layers… I mean you’re not going to want to walk to your destination but this OOTN will keep you warm enough going between the car and your date night spot! Under the sweater I have a tank for extra warm and surprisingly the leather leggings are fairly warm as they are lined on the inside and cut the wind.

Date nights in the winter typically consist of a nice dinner and a few glasses of wine at our favourite local spots: Enso, The Creek in Cathedral Bistro, Flip and The Capitol!
