SO when it’s the long weekend and you’re on a budget what do you do? ROAD TRIP!! Huge thanks again to Ford for lending me this saweeet Ford Flex.  First thing that came to mind when they offered me the Flex over e-mail was Will Ferrell… If you haven’t watched Daddy’s Home you won’t get that reference, if you have you’re welcome for the laugh.

Although the Flex didn’t have massaging seats like the Explorer (ugh, that was totally amazing) it did have a tonne of other features that kept us girls happier than pigs in S&!t.  In fact, we joked that the vehicle was smarter than us.  Features that had us questioning who was smarter, the Flex or us:

-the cruise control.  This vehicle would sense when there was a car in front of us going slower and automatically slow down. It would then speed up when I get into the other lane to pass… crazy, right?!
-sensors in the mirror that would let you know when someone was in your blind spot… genius.
-a bright red light flashes if someone in front of you breaks suddenly.  This scared me at first but I quickly realized it was an amazing feature that more vehicles should have.  We decided this would prevent many pile up collisions.
– the automatic wipers unfortunetly came in handy as it rained/poured nearly the entire weekend.
-the push button transforming seats. Literally one button to another 3 feet of storage for all our shopping bags… not that it was needed
-the sunroofs in the back were awesome as well! Nice for the passengers trapped in the back!

I’m not going to go on and on about the Beyonce concert because if you were there you know how friggin’ amazing it was and if you weren’t… I’m sorry! Here are a few pics from the weekend… I didn’t take a lot I was a busy bee on snapchat… holly_horvath

It was hard to dress cute as it was freezing and pouring rain. We all decided on a million layers and leather coats! Twinning times two!

The rain basically held off until the song, Halo… then when the fireworks went off, it poured, she seriously could not of planned it any better… it was amazing!! I saved my hair by wrapping my head in my blanket scarf… the blanket scarf saves the day, again!

My friends at Ford Canada hooked me up with this ah-ma-zing Ford Explorer for the weekend and let me tell you, it was a dream!!  And, if anyone tells you that after sitting in it for 22 hours you better believe what they’re saying.

First things first… the massaging seats!!! Yes, that’s right people it has seats that massage your booty and back as your drive!!   That was by far my favourite part about the vehicle but there were also other great features that Dawna and I enjoyed.  Serius XM radio came in handy.  Although we did talk most of the way it was nice to have some good tunes when we ran out of topics… 22 hours people, 22 hours!!!  For being a seven passenger SUV I was shocked at how great it was on fuel.  The total cost for gas was just under $200!  All in all, I say this ford Explorer was perfect for Exploring Montana!  Lots of room for our shopping bags, luggage, and our friends we met up with in Missoula!  Thanks Ford!!

We were greeted with the cutest Easter baskets and a sweet little throwback photo on our night stand! I’m going to guess, but I think that photo is circa 2007…

We started our Saturday off with a little (actually big) hike up to the M! According to our tour guides, Kelly and Cole, this is a must do in Missoula! I agree, the view was amazing!

I’m lagging a bit here… it was harder than it appears. The weather was absolutely perfect that day!

After the hike we toured around downtown Missoula and did some shopping.  Although I didn’t purchase anything (damn exchange rate!!) the boutiques were beautiful! From clothing stores, to home decor and stationary, downtown Missoula had a great selection of beautiful shops that kept us busy all afternoon. We then stopped for lunch at Market on Front! My apologies I didn’t take any photos of my food, it was honestly the most amazing sandwich I have ever had! I had the special, a steak and brie sandwich and it was to die for.  If you’re ever in Missoula, this is a must!! It’s quick and super delicious… probably the best sandwich I’ve ever had!

That evening we treated ourselves to pizza. We went to a place called Biga Pizza. I highly recommend this place!  The pizza was great; the atmosphere was relaxed and fun, nothing fancy, exactly what a pizza joint should be like!

After enjoying some pizza we headed to Plonk for some ah-ma-zing cocktails! Dawna and Kelly raved about the Cucumber Cilantro Gimlet… I went with the Cucumber Lemonade and it was fabulous! In this photo I am having an Indian Paintbrush cocktail but I did’t care for it, it was just too sweet for my liking! They were happy to mix me up a new one, gotta love great service!

The following day we hopped in the Explorer (literally), went for brunch, and then continued to explore Missoula!

Because it’s not Easter unless you’re wearing bunny ears, right?!

After a day of exploring we retired our ears for a few hours and rotted in bed while watching a million episodes of Friends and 90’s music videos… seriously, is there anything better?!

Following our rot fest we cooked a beautiful Easter dinner! We made the scalloped potatoes from Chrissy Teigen’s Cravings cookbook and a spiral glazed ham! They both took forever to make but the end result was totally worth it.  I highly suggest you RUN to the store (nothing in the book is healthy) and buy Chrissy’s cookbook, everything is so friggin’ good!

Monday morning we were up and on the road at the crack of dawn!  The trip home went by quicker than expected… Stop by again soon, I will be sharing secrets to having a successful, fun, and budget friendly road trip!

Our summer began with little plans but quickly filled up with travel and adventure.  Back in February I received Taylor Swift tickets for my birthday from my parents  and I couldn’t have been more excited!!! It was in Edmonton, where my sister lives, and in the summer so it was the perfect set up for a western Canada roadie!

To make matters even more perfect, Ford Canada contacted me about taking their brand new Ford Mustang (awesome!!!)for a week to try… ding ding ding… for having no plans, this was really starting to fall into place perfectly!

We decided to head up to Edmonton for the concert and to see my beautiful new niece, Isla, then head down to Calgary, and on to Canmore, Banff, and Lake Louise!

Here are some tips on how to make the best out of your next roadie!

1.)Eat. Snacks on a road trip are obviously priority. And like junk food-sorry if you’re looking for healthy road trip snack ideas this post is not for you.  I’m talking Ketchup chips (for my mom-Canadian followers they’re amazing… Don’t knock it till you try it), chocolate bars, and candies… Lots of candies. Because Brandon and I are so obsessed with food it’s the quite often the highlight of our trip. Here are the places we ate at and loved Juniper, Eden, Beaver Tails, and Balkan. We found all of these places on Trip Advisor and they were all great!!

2.) Drive something reliable and functional.  We were fortunate enough to have Ford supply us with a Mustang for our road trip.  Obviously super cute, reliable, great on gas, comfortable, and super fun to drive… it’s a Mustang, need I say more?!  Did I mention the sweet sound system which was obviously blasting T-Swift the entire time… so good!  But back to my original point, you need to take something reliable, being stranded on the side of the road would create some memories but let’s be honest it’s not ideal… leave the memory making up to you and your co-pilot, not the vehicle mishaps.

3.) Over pack.  When B was loading up the car I’m sure he thought I was loosing it by the amount of stuff I packed.  Driving is a whole different story than flying, obviously.  First thing that is pretty sweet is you’re not restricted to a certain weight… so pack away ladies. I obviously have a few road trip favorites, because being comfortable is what it is all about, but when I get where I’m going I like to have options!! I mean who knows what adventure you will find… you may need a floppy hat or even those overalls you packed.  Better to be safe than looking like you lost your luggage on a plane.

4.)Make a kick ass playlist.  The drive can get long and if the music isn’t *N SYNC it can get real boring… haha see what I did there?! Taylor Swift was obviously on repeat as we were prepping for the big concert but once we continued on to Calgary, Banff, and Canmore, we were ready for a change… well more so only Brandon but I went along with it considering he sat through 8 hours of Bad Blood, Mean, and Shake it Off.

5.)Plan but not too much.  We decided to turn our trip to Edmonton into a full on road trip only a few weeks before it actually happened which did make finding accommodations a little tricky so I don’t suggest doing that.  What I mean is plan where you’re going to stay and for how long but don’t plan every single second of your time.  Leave room for those random pit stops and wrong turns. It will leave you with a sore tummy from giggling and memories that will last… that is after all what road trips are all about, right?!
