Seawheeze Training Update: Part 2

Okayyyyy so the Seawheeze is officially 10 days away!! The last time we talked (okay, I know the conversation is mostly one sided but I consider us to be friends that chit chat over wine errr I mean coffee) I wasn’t enjoying running and this whole “training” thing.  Well good news, things are looking up- thank gawdd!

After reading through your many comments and suggestions (THANK YOU!!!) I finally pinpointed why I was getting the dreaded side stitch… dun dun dunnnnn.  It was a combination of two things: being a chest breather, instead of a belly breather, and I had a tight muscle in my side, right under my rib cage.  Pff easy peasy fix… well not exactly, but after lots of stretching and teaching myself how to be a”belly breather” I have solved the super annoying and painful issue.

Here is an article one of my readers shared with me. It helped me so much! If you’re having issues with side stitches I would suggest giving this article a read!

Here are some suggestions I have receive that have made my training a little more enjoyable!

Run a different route.  Well duh! Why didn’t I think of that?!  I was getting hella bored running the same route day after day.  I have since ran through new neighbourhoods and drove my car to new locations just for a change of scenery… it helps sooo much!

Spotify running playlists!  These playlists are created to match your running tempo.  The app will ask you to begin running so it can determine your tempo and then the songs match your rhythm.  This has helped me with the whole breathing thing and has made a huge difference for me! Also, as a dancer it is just so satisfying running to the beat… 5,6,7,8!

Run super early or just before dark.  This is an important one.  I love the heat but running in it is something different and is not for me.  Also, watching the sunrise or set is a bonus!

Well there you have it! I hope sharing my trials and tribulations will help you or someone you know who is struggling with running like I was!

Brandon and I will be leaving Monday and heading west.  We will begin our little west coast tour in Portland, then we will head to Vancouver for the run and then on to Kelowna!!! Any tips and suggestions for those cities would be much appreciated! Follow me on Snapchat to see what we get up to!
